Description

In "Learning Through Games," students will examine a different concept from philosophy, history, storytelling, social sciences or design through the lens of a game that illustrates that concept particularly well. For example, to study the notion of "the costs of war" we would play the game "This War of Mine," in which the players have to work together to keep a team of civilians alive in a city under siege. To study the question, "what does it take to keep a community together," we would play the role-playing story game "The Quiet Year." The instructor and the students will decide the topics to be explored in the first class. All of the games played in this class will be analog games - tabletop board games and tabletop roleplaying games.
