This is a year long course with Semester A and B lasting 15 weeks each.
Each session will focus on a different piece of literature. Some sessions may focus on a single piece of literature while others may focus on multiple.
Session 1
Literature Covered: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald & Animal Farmby George Orwell
Course overview: Students will be reading, discussing, & viewing 2 pieces of literature this session. The first piece that will be covered, from weeks 1 to 6, is F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, which students will accompany with an essay on the topic of the likely events of how things are destined to be based on one’s actions. The second half of the session (weeks 7-12) will focus on George Orwell’s Animal Farm, which students will be writing an essay on the struggle for power & the methods in which the characters use to gain power over one another.
Literature Covered: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Course Overview: This session students will be reading, discussing, & viewing The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. We will be discussing several important topics such as the inequality between the rich & the poor & the importance of one’s appearance. The main essay topic that students will be writing on is the role that technology plays on society both in the novel & in reality.
