This is a year long course with Semester A and B lasting 15 weeks each.
This course is for high school students to help them meet their requirements. Each session will focus on a different piece of literature. Some sessions may focus on a single piece of literature while others may focus on multiple.
Literature Covered: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee & Ender’s Gameby Orson Scott Card
Course overview: As a class, we will read, discuss, & view the topic of racial discrimination that takes place in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will accompany the discussion with an essay related to the topic of racial discrimination & how it has or has not changed in present day society. We will also be reading, discussing, & viewing Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. Students will be composing an essay on how the main character, a young boy named Ender, must takes on a role of leadership in the midst of an ongoing war.
Literature Covered: Divergent by Veronica Roth
Course Overview: This session will be reading, discussing, & viewing Veronica Roth’s Divergent. Students will delve into various topics such as the complexity of one’s identity & the relationship between selflessness & bravery. The main essay topic that students will be writing on is the hinderance & benefit of truth & deceit as portrayed in the novel.
